Endless Questions

It somehow feels justified and appropriate to use a boot in what felt like ten thousand feet of snow as the image for this post. Just like #Snowmageddon, this post feels endless with the potential to fall and get stuck in it. Or at least that’s what I thought when I saw the very lovely Ross from The Stented Papa had nominated me for the most god awful, ridiculously long and painfully torturous blogger tag 100 Questions, 100 Answers. Thanks Ross! But since my brain power has melted somewhat with the snow after four odd days of being snowed in, it’s a good way to get my blogger mojo back. So here we go, endless questions and real answers. There may be something in here about me that you don’t know yet!

The Basics

1. What’s your name?

Geraldine Maria Elizabeth-Ann Walsh

I had an argument with my teacher over choosing Elizabeth-Ann as my confirmation name. She said I had to choose one or the other but, in probably one of my only retaliation moments as a kid, I stood my ground and refused to give up the Ann.

Interestingly enough, in my two professional long term jobs, my first boss was called Elizabeth and my second was Anne. Spooky!

2. Any nicknames or aliases?

I was affectionately referred to as Jellybean as a kid but once I hit puberty it fazed out. Clearly I was too cool to have a nickname other than Ger by that stage, which is what most people call me now. I always hated Geri but it’s better than what a Twitter friend calls me… Ger Bear…. best to leave my thoughts on that one private 🙂

3. Your gender?

Female.

4. Your star sign?

Leo and one of those ridiculously proud lions too.

5. How old are you?

34 … yes, I know I look 12!

6. Your relationship status?

Married and happily so. We are together 17 years (married almost 12) so we have effectively grown up together.

7. Any children?

Two daughters

8. Any pets?

Not anymore. Our goldfish of ten years left us before Christmas.

9. Any tattoos or piercings?

Ears are pierced twice but I never wear earrings anymore since having kids.

I have quite a few tattoos. Cherry blossoms on my ankle which I’m hoping to get redone eventually. I have a large poppy on my back which has always represented my writing. And a half sleeve on my left arm which consists of a Mandala compass and a large steampunk owl with cogs and gears wrapping around my arm. All of which represents me, Papa Bear and our two girls.

I adore my tattoos and can’t wait to get more. It’s definitely addictive.

Tattoo

10. What do you like about yourself?

Oh god now we’re getting serious with the questions. Hmmm I like that I’ve finally found a plan and that I’ve had the courage to do it. I like that I’m honest when I write and I like that I’m not putting too much pressure on myself so that I still enjoy writing.

11. What do you dislike about yourself?

My anxiety and my lack of confidence. It’s easy to seem confidant behind a computer screen but in reality I have to force myself and give myself little pep talks when in social situations because I find them tough. I could definitely work on this more.

12. Righty or lefty?

Righty

LASTS

13. The last thing you drank?

Cuppa tea which was a bit weak for my liking but I won’t complain because Papa Bear might take offense and stop making the tea in the evenings. I hate making tea! Love drinking it though

14. The last thing you ate?

Maple syrup ribs and baby potatoes made using the incredible invention that is the slow cooker.

15. Your last phone call?

To Papa Bears aunt who I had a missed call from. As she was hanging up she dropped her phone, breaking it and had to buy a new one which I can’t lie, I feel somehow partly responsible for.

16. Your last text message?

To my sister about an article I has published in Maternity and Infant Family magazine.

17. Your last email?

To Papa Bear checking in on how his work day was going. When I worked 9 to 5 in the office, we had frequent long chats on email throughout the day. Now that I’m at home it’s so much harder to stay in contact which I have to say, really sucks.

18. The last song you listened to?

Probably something by Ed Sheerhan because he is never off the radio! Although I am a bit of a fan so no complaints here really.

19. The last book you read?

The Real Mums Guide to (Surviving) Parenting by Mama-tude’s Jen Hogan. This woman is epic! With seven kids and an incredible personality, she is genuinely admirable.

20. The last time you cried?

Hah! What a question. Eh today. Yesterday. Every day since Little Bean was born. Although a lot have been happy tears but emotional non the less.

21. The last blog you read?

Does Time Heal?” By Tric Kearney of My thoughts on a Page. Tric wrote an incredibly brave and strong post about the abuse she endured by George Gibney who has failed to be prosecuted for his crimes. She is incredible.

22. The last person you spoke to?

Papa Bear right before I brought the baby in to bed. I’m now writing this post in the darkness of her room as she dozes off.

23. The last place you visited?

Hmmm visited? Does thst include Lidl? Can you say that you “visited” Lidl? I know half the staff now so maybe it is a visit. Other than that, it was my sister’s house after the fallout of the snow where a half melted igloo looked very unstable and I got cuddles from my nieces and nephew.

24. Your last holiday abroad?

Feck this is depressing to remember. July 2013 before Little Miss was born, B and I scooted out for something like our 12th trip to Berlin. It was an awesome weekend of visiting markets and strolling around tiergarten before naps at the hotel with ones eye on the TV as Kate was just about to pop out George.I was six months pregnant and felt somewhat connected with the royals!

HAVE I EVER?

25. Have you ever gotten back with an ex?

Nope. And the one hour I split with B when I was 18 doesn’t count.

26. Have you ever been cheated on?

Not that I’m aware of.

27. Have you ever cheated on someone?

Not a fricking chance. The dishonesty is pure rotten and I could never do that.

28. Have you ever lost someone special to you?

I’ve lost friendships along the way but the worst loss I’ve felt is when a family friend who we lost touch with passed away at a very young age leaving behind a young family. Three years ago now and I feel as heartbroken about his loss as much as I did when I heard he passed. I think about him so often, almost daily.

29. Have you ever been so drunk you threw up?

Oh god I hope B doesn’t read this because he never let’s me forget this day and he’ll only bring it up again. I have only ever been drunk once in my life and it was bad. Oh so very very bad. Between me and a friend we almost emptied an entire bottle of vodka. The results were not pretty but worse B was so incredibly angry. Even though he was pissed off at me he went to McDonald’s and got me a breakfast. He lobbed it at me as I lay on the bathroom floor in bits! Ah shit, that’s my own and only story about alcohol! I actually don’t drink so clearly couldn’t handle it!

30. Have you ever fallen out of love with someone?

I’ve truly only been in love once in my life and that’s Papa Bear. And I love him more now than ever.

Why I love my husbans

31. Have you ever met someone who changed you?

Definitely B. He taught me how to laugh at myself and not take life too seriously. Changed me is probably the wrong phrase. We more grew up together and taught eachother life lessons.

32. Have you ever been in a situation where you found out who your real friends are?

Not really but once you have kids things change and the friends who want to stick amongst the puke and smelly bums around stuck around.

33. Have you ever kissed someone you probably shouldn’t have?

Nope

34. Have you ever found out people were talking about you behind your back?

Yes and it hurt like a bitch but I’m over it. Time moved on and there’s no point worrying, wondering or arguing when there are more important things in life to be concerned about.

35. Have you ever broken someone’s heart?

Probably broke Bs once or twice but I like to think I mended it too.

36. Have you ever kissed a stranger?

Nope

37 Have you ever had your own heart broken?

Hmmm not to the extent that it shattered into a million pieces and I couldn’t function. So no I suppose not.

38 Have you ever had sex on the first date?

Nope

39 Have you ever been arrested?

Nope

40 Have you ever been attracted to someone that isn’t the gender you usually find attractive?

Women are damn attractive. But I couldn’t say I’m explicitly attracted to women. I completely appreciate (or is it jealousy) other women though.

41. Have you ever done something you regret?

Oh god this list is way too long to start thinking about my regrets. Yes I 100% know I have regrets but through my anxiety I’ve realised I can’t dwell on the.

42. Have you ever had a threesome?

Nope

43. Have you ever embarrassed yourself in public?

Of course, who hasn’t?

44. Have you ever misjudged someone?

Again, of course, who hasn’t? It’s life’s lessons to understand where your judgement came from and why it was wrong though.

MY BELIEFS AND OPINIONS

45. Do you believe in God?

I do but not a conventional Catholic god. I believe in something greater than us at least.

46. Do you believe in yourself?

Oh yes. I have massive faith in my ability to achieve my dreams. No one else is going to do it for me so I have to believe in myself. Don’t we all.

47. Do you believe in Santa Claus?

Yes. Straight up Santa is the Christmas spirit and without him I’m not sure Christmas would have the same family ethos.

48. Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes but I’d rather not cos I’m a total wuss but the supernatural is fascinating.

49. Do you believe in aliens?

I believe that you’d have to be quite closed minded not to believe in aliens. The universe is too vast to believe we’re alone. It’s common sense really.

50. Do you believe in miracles?

Yes. A miracle can be something small some something huge but either way life has it’s way of surprising you. Miracles happen every day. Whether they are unexplainable or just something that happened at the right moment, things happen for a reason and sometimes it’s so powerful that it can only be counted as a miracle.

51. Do you believe in the power of positive thinking?

I do but I don’t do it enough. Positivity is a powerful force which can change so many things. Since suffering from extreme anxiety I’ve dipped into the negative side of the glass and its been hard to see the positive again but I’ll get there.

52. Do you believe in love at first sight?

Yes. Why not?

53. Can money make you happy?

It can help but it wouldn’t last since money has to be spent. As my mum says money comes, money goes. Love shown always grows.

54. Would you describe yourself as a feminist?

Yes but I have a problem with tying myself under one word terminology especially when words are subjected to a tremendous amount of change depending on opinions. While I may consider myself a feminist, I may argue with another feminist over issues we are supposedly supposed to agree on. Does that make me or them less of a feminist? In broader terms, I truly advocate the role of women, our choices, lives, attitudes, wants, needs and stance.

55. Are you pro-life or pro-choice?

Pro choice

56. Do you have strong political beliefs?

I’m not a political person and will always steer a conversation away from politics.

57. Do you have strong religious beliefs?

I have beliefs but I’ve yet been able to focus them into one entity. They are strong enough to make me question everything around me and to question right from wrong.

58. What do you think the most important thing you can give a child is?

Love

RIGHT NOW

59. Are you eating anything right now?

Pringles cheese and onion flavour. Also pondering dipping into some chocolate stored on the top shelf of the fridge.

60. Are you drinking anything right now?

Another cup of tea.

61. What are you listening to right now?

Nothing, unless you count the white noise coming from Little Beans monitor.

62. What are you thinking about right now?

Nooe. There are not enough words to answer this question. There are 749 things racing through my mind right now and I can’t focus on a single one.

63. What are you waiting for right now?

Emails. Specifically emails saying “yes we love your writing, let’s publish you!”

64. What are you most excited about right now?

Meeting my friend in the morning for coffee after dropping little miss off at montessori.

65. What’s your pet hate right now?

I still hate spitting. It’s been my pet hate for forever.

66. What’s your favourite thing right now?

The quiet in the evenings when the kids are sound asleep and Infant focus on work. Ticking things off my to do list. Satisfying.

Prepping an article for a newspaper or magazine more than likely or sending out pitches… speaking of which, BRB.
