B and I have finally started to get our heads around Little Bean’s bedroom. When we first moved to the countryside, the smallest bedroom instantly became a playroom for A. Ah yes, the ever popular playroom also known as, The Store Room, Junk Room, Throw-it-in-there Room. A place to toss unloved toys into mangled boxes from Ikea, with hard Play Doh and bits of random toys. I’m not sad to see this room disappear and funnily enough either is A. She helped me gut the room, clear out the junk, the unwanted toys and retrieve once loved but forgotten toys back into a more suitable place in her bedroom. Of course, this meant rearranging A’s bedroom furniture around (more times than once because I’m quite indecisive) to fit more storage in for toys she simply can’t part with yet. The baby’s room is still a shell (a shell full of junk), but at least we’ve started.
In fact, I’m incredibly proud that we’ve started to gather the little bits and pieces we need like nappies (are newborn’s bums really that small? I’ve totally forgotten), wipes, cotton wool, and sudocream… lots of sudocream. In my head, I can see the baby’s room completely finished and decorated but right now this minute, it’s a bit of a junk room with baby’s clothes in boxes, miscellaneous baby toys and cuddlies, an empty box for my brand spanking new power washer… yes that’s in there and slowly the junk has started piling.
B doesn’t know but we have a trip to the hardware store this weekend to choose the wallpaper. But luckily for him, I’m roping in my ever reliable and trustworthy handyman, John, to come and do the job for us. I honestly, can’t deal with the stress of wallpapering and decorating right now, so I’ll be happy to see it all when it’s magically done.
When A was on the way, I had themes and colours and landscapes all set out for her room. Little Bean has no such thing, except I pretty much know what corners of the room the furniture will go. A daybed (mostly for Momma Bear to lay her head down on), chest of drawers and the cot. A’s cot. Ah memories.
The cot is currently inhabited by A’s cousin who, if we have done our timings right, should be waddling into her toddler bed just as Little Bean migrates from our room to her own. (I kicked A out at 3 months but I wonder will I do the same this time round. I have a feeling I won’t).
Second babies are great for hand-me-downs and I’m delighted we don’t have to buy a new cot. A new mattress however was always on the cards. I was super chuffed when Baby Elegance offered to provide us with a cot mattress to review, for two reasons. It’s one thing to tick off the never ending list and two, I absolutely hate trying to decide which mattress is the most suitable, best quality and also affordable.
If you don’t know Baby Elegance yet then I recommend you check them out for those baby essentials. They literally have everything you need for baby’s impending arrival and have been my go to for a while now. Their range is second to none.
I’ll be honest, I would not have known where to start with mattresses. All I knew was that I needed a new one for Little Bean, as it’s recommended, by the magic gods known as experts, to always have a new mattress for each baby. But what kind, how hard, how soft, washable? The list is endless. Luckily, Baby Elegance have a great range that covers everything your little bundle will need for a comfortable (and hopefully long) night’s sleep. Suitable from birth, the anti-allergy and washable, micro fibre mattress was perfect and yes I tested it. I popped my little head (or gradually expanding pregnancy head) on the mattress and it is oh so comfortable. Little Bean will be uber cozy!
