Since moving to the countryside three years ago, we’ve been dealing with some oh so very very low internet speeds. It’s a by-product of living slap bang in the middle of fields. Having poor internet has had an affect on our Netflix addiction. But we’ve struggled on and found some amazing Netflix Originals that have kept us enthralled and intrigued. Yesterday, the stars aligned and we found out we’re finally enabled for fibre! Whoop! Netflix addiction will be truly satisfied now. In the meantime here’s a list of 5 incredibly suspenseful Netflix films we’ve watched and loved recently.
I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore
Quite simply be prepared for a rollercoaster. This movie had me gripped and twisted and churned. Melanie Lynskey plays a blinder in a role that seems completely unsuited to her. Elijah Wood as the bizarre neighbour is outstanding as usual. Pairing the two of them is almost revolutionary as their dynamic and suspenseful story plays out. And boy is it suspensful. The story seems almost unassuming as it begins and quickly spirals into obscurity. It’s one of the best films I’ve seen in a while which is why it tops this list.
Sci fi, robots, questioning life and all that comes with survival sits nicely in this simple story of kidnappee (that’s a word right?) and Artificial Intelligence. I rooted for the girl. I rooted for the robot. The ultimate battle of understanding but the need and human desire to survive. AI movies are usually one and the same but Tau managed to lift the lid a little and create something a little better and a little more special in the science fiction world.
Quite an interesting story here but possibly a tad long with some unnecessary scenes. Nonetheless it’s worth the watch. Alexander Skarsgard plays a mute man with a past and in desperate need of a future. He battles alongside Paul Rudds character who is delightfully unlikable which is a good thing because you’re not supposed to like him. With suspense, action and excellent acting, Mute is one to add to your list.
What Happened To Monday
As soon as I read the description on this movie I knew I wanted to watch it. To be one and the same with 6 others is an impossible task but when needs must, 7 become 1. In what is a terrifyingly plausible future, 7 sisters, played by the incredible Noomi Rapace, battle to save themselves in a world where only one of them should exist. A ton of suspense, a whole lot of heart and plenty of drama and action. This movie plays out brilliantly despite its lenghty timeframe of two hours.
Bokeh is one of those movies that you truly don’t want to ever happen in real life. A young couple on holiday in stunning Iceland wake up to be the only people on the planet. Eerie, suspenseful, dramatic, lonesome, somewhat depressing if you dwell on it too much and well played out. Bokeh is beautiful filmed and written.
