Kidloland Review & Giveaway

I have a love hate relationship with technology for toddlers. On the one hand, I worry about what effect using phones and tablets will have on A. But on the other hand, I know that we live in a technological age and that A can benefit from using such devices in the long run. Discovering Kidloland has swayed me towards the use of apps for toddlers, albeit with strict time limits. Read my review to find out more.

A has developed a habit – one I have yet to try and break because it actually helps us – of hunting out my phone every morning before we set off for work. Generally, she will use it for about ten to fifteen minutes as B and I get ready for work. I let her have the phone because it makes things easier for us since we tend to be running late. Once I’m ready, she puts the phone in my bag and we get her ready for the day.

However! We have not found apps for toddlers with sufficient engagement and interaction that will hold A’s attention for that period of time. The apps we have used have a handful of songs or activities which A tires of quickly. Instead, she finds Kids YouTube. Let’s face it, Kids YouTube is pretty much surprise eggs and play dough! There is very little in the way of educational content there.

We were delighted to come across Kidloland! As always, I was dubious at first. Was this just another toddler and children’s app that A would bore of quickly? No! I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of content this toddler app offers. It is far and above what other apps on the market provide.

At a glance, content includes

  • 88 favorite nursery rhymes
  • 120+ fun & original children songs to teach ABCs, fruits, vehicles, animals, vegetables, animal sounds, birds, shapes, insects, numbers, colors, Christmas songs, etc.
  • 3 Old MacDonald Songs
  • 4 Row Your Boat Songs
  • 12 songs to teach Months of The Year

But it is the 100+ activities that really caught my eye. There are quite a lot of fantastic activities for toddlers to figure out. They encourage memory, hand eye coordination, manual dexterity and problem solving skills. These activities in my opinion are worth purchasing the app.

Beautifully Animated

All toddlers and children love songs, so for me the nursery rhymes and songs are an special bonus. A was fascinated by the animations which come with each individual song. So far, her favourite is Doctor Foster and she’s asked me to find him a good few times already! Certain parts of the animation can be clicked on by the child resulting in something happening on screen. The surprise element is always fun for a toddler! The songs also have subtitles at the bottom which is an added benefit for learning for older children.

The app is suitable from birth to 5 years. A will be 3 in October and she is a keen fan already. I can see her using it for quite some time and I wish I had it earlier.

Bear in Mind

All content has to be downloaded initially, which is best to do before you allow the child to use it. We know toddlers and young children have little patience so no point making them wait. There is quite a bit to download but once you’re done the app can be used without an internet connection, which is perfect for those long road trips and plane journeys.

So for this Momma Bear it’s a thumbs up for Kidloland!

  • The activities are great, encouraging A to use her mind
  • The nursery rhymes are beautifully animated and interactive
  • The original songs are fun, animated and interactive
  • And if that wasn’t enough, more content is promised for the app continually!

Downsides because there always has to be some!

    • It’s not free. The first song or activity is free in each section but the remainder must be purchased. I have to admit I believe it’s worth it. And you can’t expect this much interactive content to be free!
    • The scrolling mechanism does not slow enough on my tablet, so A was having difficulty clicking on her chosen section. If I wasn’t with her, she probably would have become frustrated and hunted for Kids YouTube. But in saying that the navigation is very simple and aside from that A could navigate back to the home screen no problem. As she uses it more she will get used to the scrolling and it shouldn’t be a problem.

I have genuinely been very surprised by this app. A really loves it and the songs are catchy. She prefers the songs at the moment so she’ll probably grow into the activities. Thanks for entering the Giveaway

This loBoks fab! I am much the same, I have this conflict with technology and my 15 month old, but I think it’s good to find educational ways to use apps and introduce them in. I love the look of this and the animations are lovely too. Thanks very much for linking up to #dreamteam Great to have you! xx
